+++++++++++++++++++++++++ Alvertie M. Queen founded in 1905, Electric Machine Company in Norfolk, Virginia, at the corner of Granby St. and Wilson Avenue. Alvertie was a strong woman. My father told me she had long thin and skilled fingers and could wind a motor coil deftly in minutes. Alvertie trained about 8 young men to work for her, one of which was my grandfather and her son Porter Odry Sutton. Others who worked under her went on to found their own companies, such as Lawrence R. Crutsinger,, who went on to found 'Auto Electric Service', Basford, who became an Airport Pilot and Charlie Wallace, who founded 'Charles Wallace Electric'. I was told that she had to be strong because James tried out different schemes that did not turn out well. See full book listing below---
