A HELPFUL PERSON for those attending ART TRIANGLE BARCELONA
: Miren Bustinza i Prats, representative of The British Council,
'Promoting cultural, educational and technical co-operation between Britain
and other countries.'. Miren Bustinza i Prats, gave kind caring attention
and most generous invitations to events, such as the Spanish Opera, [ Opera:
'Mar i Cel'.] while I attended Barcelona, Triangle and we became friends.
Although Miren Bustinza i Prats was from the British Institute, she made
a real effort to connect with the artists in the Barcelona Triangle Workshop
1987, as a true ambassador. Where were the Canadian ambassadors? or the
American ambassadors? Miren and I ended up true friends; I, an American
living in Canada, and Miren, a Spanish born, working for the British government.
All very international. Miren I believe was born, near where Miro had his
farm, in Mont roig del Camp, Catalunya, Tarragona region, Spain ( which
is on the T-310 highway) and for some time had been repairing an old house
there. A tiny village half way up the Red Mountain (where the name Mont
Roig comes from.) These notes are in part from a letter that Miren Bustinza
i Prats wrote to me in July 6, 1990. - and only 6 kms from the sea. I am
very sad to write that Miren Bustinza i Prats was killed in a car accident
driving to her old house. (Carol L. Sutton) (Map: google: http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=Mont-roig+del+Camp,+Spain&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title)

________________ http://www.asociacionprensa.org/noticias/premio_comunicacion.htm IMAGE CREDIT: |

He received his basic art education at Central Technical School in Toronto and worked with Anthony Caro (York University, 1974-75). Fauteux is known for the elegant, controlled line of drawing that characterizes his abstract sculptures. Profoundly influenced by the minimalist paintings of Kenneth Noland, Fauteux has successfully dealt with and transformed Noland's painterly concerns to his sculptures. The carefully articulated thin outlines enclose the volume of each work, but the flatness of the steel, the convergence of verticals and horizontals at sharp, dramatic angles, and the surrounding negative space defy the mass and weight of the sculptures. Fauteux's approach uses the interaction of geometric shapes as a point of departure in the building of a sculptural form. In 1987 he received the Francis Greenberger Prize from the Guggenheim Museum and was awarded a major commission by the city of Barcelona. Fauteux has exhibited regularly in Toronto, New York, Chicago, London and Barcelona and is represented in the collections of many Canadian and international museums." Since that time her paintings and prints have been widely exhibited in Paris, Havana, Venice, Buenos Aires, Mexico City and elsewhere. She also served as a Professor of Art at the Escuela Eina, Barcelona, until 1970. In 1995 Maria Girona illustrated an anthology of poetry by Juan Ramon Jimenez. 23rd November 2004, 03:02 PM # 4: "When one of the panellists, Kevin Power, deputy director of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in Madrid, spoke frankly about the constraints and challenges of his job, referring to the real threat of political interference in the Reina Sofía, Juncosa, who was his predecessor in Madrid, chided him gently for his negative attitude and effectively sidestepped the question of political intervention in or influence on the programming of IMMA. " QUOTE: "In the ensuing discussions Power made some of the most interesting contributions, highlighting the necessity for curators to break out of the Eurocentric bias that affects their selections of artists, both within public museums and at the international biennales, where curators wield enormous power. He warned against the same small group of artists being shown everywhere, with international freelance curators duplicating each other's work, creating a narrowly homogeneous view of what contemporary art is and could be.
