Size: 91inches by 126 inches, or cm by cm, show here unstretched and unframed. The painting has never been stretched or framed and is rolled up in the artist studio.

Notes: Pulpo en su Mismo Tinto is a regional authentic cuisine dish of seacoast origins. This recipe is often served in Catalan homes and restaurants. A late Sping , early Summer dish. This dish was prepared by the chefs and presented to the artists at Barcelona Triangle one day for lunch. It so impressed me with the color of the pinkish baby squid / octopus floating, swimming in a pool of black inky soup, that when I went back to the studio I painted this picture.

Also in my mind were the gold and black richlly decorative painting of the high Gothic style madonna's that I had seen in the local Catalonian Art and Ceramics Museum, Palau Nacional de Montjuic; which has the world's best collection of Romanewque and Gothic Catalan art, Alterpieces, and carvings. Many are rich in color with gold accents, rose, and the earth tones of ochre paint.

Date: May 1987 Notes: Critics Karen Wilkin and Michael Fried visit the studio of Carol Sutton in her Barcelona Triangle studio after just completing the work: Virgin of Black and Gold Spots or alternate title:Pulpo en su Mismo Tinto. The paint is still wet and pooled in the center, just as the soup was pooled in the bowl. The canvas for this painting was stapled to a raised plywood platform that was provided for each artist participant.
