Won blue ribbon and $25.oo for this prize.Carol entered an art contest and won a blue ribbon for her collage, 'Pensive Youth', which was an image of a girl looking out of a paned window. The collage was made of black and white torn magazine pieces, with the eyebrows made from the legs of a civil war soldier, and the eyes themselves made of the faces of civil war soldiers. This art work was reviewed in the local newspaper. She thought of it as a sort of self portrait of her looking out of her window.]

1969 "Montpelier Farm Stable Show of Eight Artists", Landover, Upper Marlboro, Maryland, October ( sculpture of glass titled: 'Global March' [See Bibliography: Anne Christmas: Art in a Stable Setting] & paper works). Estate loan of the stable barns at Beall's Pleasure, Monpelier, in Prince George County, Route 301, near Upper Marlboro, Maryland {An18th century Georgian home in private ownership; also listed as :Federal architecture; that is on the National Register Listing since 1979, Montpelier was built in 1783} was courtesy of: Joseph Shepperd Rogers III, my friend, and fellow artist student at the UNCG Masters program. Joe liked to work in dense visual collages of various materials. Joseph "Joe" Rogers, listed as Nevia (Joseph Shepperd Rogers, Painter, in 'Who's Who of American Art 1995-96 , 21st Edition', page 883,. Notes: Quote: "Beall's Pleasure" - The house is up a narrow, private road on the left, 16.3 miles N.E. along Bladenton Road from Old Toll Gate, or at Bladensburg. Rd. and H Street, but is visible from the main road. This early colonial and brick house was built in 1795 by Benjamin Stoddard, 1st Secretary of the Navy, and confidential agent in securing rights for the Capital City. This fine example of Georgian architecture was built of brick burned at clay pits still visible on the grounds. The house was erected on foundations of a still earlier house, probably one built by Ninian Beall when he first patented the land and gave in the name in 1706. "

Firm to celebrate 20 colorful years
By Tom Grace

Cooperstown News Bureau

COLUMBUS - Twenty years ago in a barn on Bell Road in Columbus, the Golden family began to make acrylic artists paints.

Family patriarch Sam Golden, who'd been creating acrylic paints since the 1930s, supervised production, and his son, Mark Golden, at times delivered the paint directly to artists in New York City.
skip- - -
To celebrate this good fortune, Golden Artists Colors will hold a two-day event on Labor Day weekend this year. There will be a silent auction of donated artwork, an anniversary party at the firm's Columbus complex and a gala reception at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown.

Proceeds from the silent action will benefit the Sam and Adele Golden Foundation, which provides grants to help outstanding artists with their careers, Barbara Golden said.

{Carol Sutton donated "Untitled-The Water Spiral Series", 22" x 30" painting on paper; "We have increased the Foundation Endowment by $26,000 and your generous contribution has added $1,000.00." Barbara Golden.}
