Date: March 22 to April 9, 2003 Title: "Carol Sutton- Faberge Jewelry Series" -Place: Gallery One, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Time range of five years. Twenty-six artworks on paper. All of these artworks are based the the lost and then found notebook archives of the work of jewelry designed by Carl Faberge and his workmasters for the Russian Royal Family. Show card illustration is:
"Kokoshinik Pendant Flying Alphbet", mixed media, 2002, mixed media, 2002, about 17 by 12 inches. The show is made up of six large major pieces and twenty smaller scale works.
All frames chosen by the artist herself, these include three works framed on mirrors. Gold, silver, matte black, metal, shadow box designs for the cuff-links artworks, which are suggestive of British Museum showcases for the works the artist refers to as 'the masculine ones.' Large frames that had the actual look of Faberge's own frame designs, gold with the reed and ribbon motif.
Carol comments: "My main concern as always is first with the art and second with the presentation or framing of that art.
These Faberge jewelry artworks are a natural extension of my earlier jewelry paintings begun in 1995."
Friend, artist Mali Morris of London, England, writes: " Your work still celebrates the gorgeous - snowflakes and jewels - with your lovely touch."
