"Of these, I will dwell on only five: Carol Sutton (Toronto). Darryl Hughto (Syracuse, N.Y.), Doug Haynes (Edmonton) Graham Peacock (Edmonton), and Joseph Drapell (Toronto).

Carol Sutton's exhibition at the A.C.T. Gallery in Toronto last January revealed her as one of our most promising younger artists. She is exemplary of Mr. Fenton's argument that 1970s painting is typified by great variety in paint handling. Her use of spray gun, sponge, and so on, shows a good awareness of Olitski, Bush, and her contemporary, Darryl Hughto. At present, hers is still somewhat young and rather eclectic painting. She has, however, a sense of structure already her own, whereby the depicted shapes of her pictures are levered and counter-levered against one another. This personal layout goes back to the floor pieces Sutton did around 1969-70 and is especially apparent in several excellent paintings by her in a group show at Gallery One (Toronto) this past fall. Golden Artists Colors Inc."GOLDEN Artist Colors continues to investigate the uses, understand the strengths, and push the limits of acrylic paints. We have developed technical resources by working closely with creative artists around the world." Carol Sutton paints with the best acrylic paint bar none, worldwide. That is Golden Artists Colors Inc.

I was one of the first artist in Canada to test out these new colors circa 1980. Their unique high load color gesso and fluid acrylics, superb gel, and a host of other goodies make the paint that the paintings are made from possible. Golden also makes the best hand crafted [with thier real paint] color charts in the business. These charts are little works of art in themselves; usually the yellows are floated in a sea of deeper hues that surround them and include the original Heavy Body, Iridescent Acrylics and Interference Acrylics. Golden also makes a Matte Acrylics line. CLS

HISTORY: "June 1980 marked the beginning of GOLDEN Artist Colors, Inc., in a 900 square foot, renovated cow barn owned by Sam Golden. Sam, his wife Adele, son Mark and daughter-in-law Barbara Golden along with partner Chuck Kelly founded the company after a failed retirement by Sam.

by David Jaeger and artist, Carol Sutton Martin.
The visible part consists of flakes of coloured light (soft colours

EP FragMental- new3.gifJust released; July 2007; CD by Insideamind- "From deep within the valley of scatter pops. . . a quiet wind's hiss wobbles tops of trees and turns sound loose".

Trust their innate rhythm and surprising sounds to transport you to original terrain. Cuts such as 'Laughing life' [4:30] are not afraid to have both laughter, and melody. Can a bee sound also like a shooting star? Yes if you hear 'Bee love' [4:44]. EP FragMental is wonderful mix of scene, experience, voice, turntable elements, flow, language, but ultimately fresh transforming music.

Very strong cover art by Cheldon Paterson.

"Another challenge was The Chair. Every night, actor Eric Sutton, as the frustrated son of the pixilated family and friends at the center of the story, smashes a chair in anger over an imagined betrayal by his girlfriend. Collage Galore ! Some people just don't get it. Collage that is.
Although collage has been around almost 100 years since Picasso and Braque *
are credited with it's invention in Paris, France, around 1912;
many art viewers and collectors still think, Why are you pasting all the junk and discarded stuff into your artwork? "; or worse they think,: "Oh, I also try to recycle paper." Whatever !! : ( , But Jonathan Talbot gets it ; which you can see by his devotion to collage; and so do all the other artists on his amazing COLLAGE ART LINKS page. Have a l@@k! -
Today collage is having a Renaisance since the advent of digital computer art and programs like Photoshop , Painter, and Adobe Illustrator. {notes by Carol Sutton; who herself has made collages for over 15 years.}

*Example Picasso Collage: 'Still Life with Chair Caning'. Paris, May 1912, Collage of oil, oilcloth, and paper on canvas (oval format), surrounded with rope,
10 5/8 " x 13 3/4", or (27 x 35 cm ); catalogue - Zervos II, 294, Diax 466. Musee Picasso, Paris, France, Europe.

*Example Braque Collage: 'Still Life with Newspaper: "Jour" '[Sorgues, autumn 1912]; Charcoal and pasted paper,
18 7/8 x 24 3/8 " or (48 cm x 62cm); M.-F./C. 11. Collection: Ernst Beyeler, Basel, Switzerland, Europe.

[Carol's 5 star rating] Ronnie Landfield and Ronald Davis
have up a very educational and extensive site on rare and great quality recent abstract art.

This is the only site I know of on the web that offers an entire range of abstract art. Site is international.
It lists also 'grandfathers', more artists, digital artists.
The lesser known, the should be known, those artists that are known only to other painters. For example Lawrence Stafford's unique spray artwork.
"Lawrence Stafford's spray paintings of 1968-69 are a rare and exquisite treat for the eye and the mind. Reminiscent of the sea and electronic music these gentle and beautifully evocative pictures calmly assert themselves. Stafford's work is rarely seen, but in the late sixties he had important solo exhibitions in New York and Germany. His work is in many private collections and several public collections, including the Whitney Museum in New York and The Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne, Germany. "
