Poem by Carol Lorraine Sutton, written February 20, 1987
{Infanta Maria , Vienna Museum}

Velazquez wants to paint the Princess nude
but he cannot
as this would be out of boundaries
so he imagines her dress
as if it were flesh, with all the nuances,
tones, and color of skin.

Another version:
Velasquez wanted to paint
the little princess nude
but he could not
as this was
out of boundaries
So he imagined her dress
As if it were flesh
with all the nuances and color of skin.
